Status used to announce itself from across the valet line. Now the most expensive objects in the room appear almost anonymous, recognizable only to people fluent in the same private language.

This is not minimalism, and it is certainly not modesty. It is a recalibration. The thrill has shifted from being seen to being understood, from accumulation to the precision of the choice.

Discretion is only modesty when nobody notices how much it cost.

We spoke with collectors, dealers, tailors, and one relentlessly candid heir about the uneasy theater of having enough, hiding it badly, and wanting more.

The corrected wardrobe has no visible logos. The corrected house faces away from the road. The corrected car is delivered in a color described by a sentence rather than a name.

Los Santos has not become tasteful. It has simply learned that whispering makes people lean closer.
